Former White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders appeared on Fox News Wednesday afternoon and unleashed a torrent of criticism targeting Joe Biden. Biden, said Sanders, is no “moderate,” as the former vice president is often portrayed.

“Anybody who’s been paying attention to Joe Biden on the campaign trail – and frankly, and on the debate stage – knows he’s been a terrible candidate,” said Sanders. “But anybody who’s been listening to him state his policy positions knows he’s extremely liberal and would make an even more dangerous and terrible president.”

“Let’s not forget that he’s moved so far to the Left,” Sanders continued. “Joe Biden is no moderate. He supports taxpayer-funded abortion, free healthcare for illegals, wants to eliminate fracking, supports the Green New Deal, which would kill millions of jobs. He’s fighting against the Second Amendment.”

“This is not someone Democrats can claim is in the middle and is a moderate by any stretch of the imagination,” Sanders added. “He is an extreme liberal, and he is going to be just as easy for the president to beat as Bernie Sanders. It’ll be a very different campaign, but I still think Donald Trump is in a great position. Let’s also watch. They have settled for Joe Biden. It wasn’t like they’ve wanted Joe Biden.”

Despite Biden’s leftward shift, the former vice president, who has become the prohibitive Democratic frontrunner after a series of blowout primary wins, continues to pitch himself as a moderate. However, his statements on the campaign trail have increasingly undermined that appeal.

Over the course of just one week, Biden declared to Americans in South Carolina that, “if you elect me, your taxes are gonna be raised, not cut,” and announced in Texas that radical anti-Second Amendment proponent Beto O’Rourke will head up his gun control efforts when he’s president. A week later, when a Michigan auto factory worker confronted him about “actively trying to end our Second Amendment rights,” he cussed him out and claimed the man didn’t need an “AR-14” (although he likely meant AR-15).

The Democratic frontrunner has also been caught expressing his intentions to “repeal … the Hyde Amendment, which bars federal funding for most abortions.” At one point last fall, Biden’s radical stance on abortion resulted in him being denied Holy Communion by a Catholic priest. During the June 2019 Democratic debate, when all the candidates were told, “Raise your hand if your government plan would provide coverage for undocumented immigrants,” Biden was one of the candidates who did so.

On energy, Biden has also been gravitating to the left. Though he has not said outright that he would “eliminate fracking,” his campaign website explains that he intends to “use the full authority of the executive branch” to use the federal government to take actions such as “[require] aggressive methane pollution limits for new and existing oil and gas operations.” The former vice president also said he would ban fracking nationwide if he thought he could, despite his belief that it would be highly unlikely, implying that he would ban as much as legally possible.

As for democratic socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal, Biden has expressed admiration for it, and said he would seek to flesh it out: “What I did was what I thought beyond, at least in more detail, what the Green New Deal is calling for.”
